Bring Your Girls To Work Day...
A day of STEM fun with our girls!
The Charlotte WIN Chapter invites employees to bring their daughters, grandaughters, lttle sisters and nieces in grades 2 - 12 for a day of fun STEM activities and job shadowing! On Thursday, August 14 between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., WIN will facilitate several STEM activities designed to introduce our girls to AREVA, nuclear energy and the workplace in hopes of piquing their interest in STEM subjects and careers.
WIN will host four, one-hour sesions throughout the day. During the times that these sessions are not ongoing, the parent/guardian will be responsible for watching/escorting their child(ren). This will be a great time for job shadowing and bonding!

Not all the power was on the field!
The Charlotte WIN Chapter traveled to BBT Stadium on May 21 for a night of networking to watch the Charlotte Knights. Our favorite "orange" AREVA shirts drew attention from all around providing WIN members the opportunity to share what AREVA does and spread the word on nuclear energy. We also put our safety knowledge into play!
The Journeys of Three Successful Women in Nuclear
In May, the Charlotte WIN Chapter attended a U.S. WIN professional development webinar on "The Journeys of Three Successful Women in Nuclear". Female Vice Presidents from Entergy, INPO, and Exelon spoke about their careers in the nculear industry. The discussions addressed proactive career advancement strategies, career goals, and making your achievements known. The webinar, which was organized by NEI, was motivating and insightful.

Wine & Design Networking Event
On April 10, the Charlotte WIN Chapter hosted a joint networking event with Charlotte CB&I WIN at Wine & Design. The evening had an artistic flare as the ladies incorporated their individual styles into the turtle template, discovering their "inner artist". Although we had to make sure no paint got into the wine cups - one of the top three rules at Wine & Design - the evening was centered on fun networking.
Nuke Girls on the Block
Clean Air Carolina's 5K Run & Walk
On June 7, WIN members from AREVA Charlotte and URS teamed up as "Nuke Girls on the Block" to participate in Clean Air Carolina's 5th Annual 5K Run & Walk for Clean Air at Rural Hill Farm in Huntersville, N.C. The team wore "Go Green.Go Clean.Go Nuclear." shirts with "Know Nukes #nuclearmatters" on the back to promote nuclear energy as a carbon-free source. Participants included Suzanne Delica, Fariba Gartland and Mamie Mason of AREVA Inc., and Devon Atkins and Kara Lukehart of URS.
WIN Partners with NAYGN to make more than 400 sandwiches for Operation Sandwich...
A networking success!
Since March, one lunch hour per month has been donated to help neighbors in need by supporting the Urban Ministry Center "Operation Sandwich" program. On May 21, the Charlotte WIN Chapter partnered with NAYGN to smash their previous record of 300 sandwiches (set in April) by nearly 50 percent. During one hour, 18 volunteers representing WIN and NAYGN made 440 sandwiches!
Thank you to volunteers Mark Yaconetti, Sandra Neal, Jessica Lockwood, Jan Phillips, Mamie Mason, Lynn Butler, Theresa Joakim, Jessica Dey, Suzanne Frisco, Jill Griffin, Valeria Baggett, John McEntire, Charles Lakeman, Matthew Plante, Adam Jone, Matt Sharpe, Anthony Chang, and Steve Fullam for making sandwiches on May 21. The Urban Ministry Center hands out more than 800 sandwiches every day to the homeless men, women and children of Charlotte.

In June, the AREVA Charlotte WIN Chapter teamed with the Lynchburg WIN Chapter via video conference to host Cassie Hagan, AREVA VP of Communications. Cassie shared her take on mobility, which she believes ithe key to "Jet Setting Your Career".

2014 U.S. WN National Conference
The Charlotte WIN Chapter sent four Charlotte employees to the U.S. WIN National confernece which was held in Boston, Massachusetts in July. AREVA was a Platinum sponsor of the conference and provided three speakers.
